Habits worth reconsidering

The old site carried a page on this. The ones that genuinely matter, for anyone:

Electromagnetic fields

This deserves a straight answer rather than either alarm or dismissal.

Mobile phones, wi-fi and power lines emit non-ionising radiation, which does not have enough energy to damage DNA directly — unlike X-rays or ultraviolet light, which do. The International Agency for Research on Cancer classified radiofrequency fields as "possibly carcinogenic" (Group 2B) in 2011, a category that indicates limited evidence warranting further study rather than established risk. Large studies since have not established a causal link with cancer.

Sensible, low-cost precautions if you would rather be cautious: use a headset or speaker for long calls, do not sleep with the phone at your head, keep it out of a chest pocket, and use a wired connection where convenient.

What I would not do is spend money on shielding products, which are largely unproven. The far better-established health effect of a phone is what it does to your sleep and attention, not what it does to your cells.

Pregnancy

Traditional guidance emphasises rest, calm surroundings, nourishing simple food and gentle movement, and there is nothing wrong with any of that.

Please rely on your doctor here

Pregnancy is the one area where I would ask you not to substitute anything on this site for medical care. Antenatal check-ups, folic acid before and during early pregnancy, iron and calcium as prescribed, tetanus immunisation, and institutional delivery have between them saved an enormous number of Indian mothers and babies. Please do not fast during pregnancy, and check every herbal preparation with your doctor — several common ones are unsafe in pregnancy.

Listening to the body

The old site had a page called "Our Body Organ Speaks", and the instinct behind it is right: symptoms are information. Persistent fatigue, unexplained weight change, a cough that will not clear, a lump, a change in bowel habit, blood anywhere it should not be — these are the body saying something and they deserve investigation rather than interpretation.

The most useful thing this site can tell you is when to stop reading it and see a doctor.

Please read this first

This site is a personal account and a record of traditional practice, shared for information. It is not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a treatment for any disease. I am not a doctor.

If you are unwell — and especially if you have a serious illness such as cancer, diabetes or heart disease — please stay under the care of a qualified physician. Nothing here should replace or delay that care.
