Panchamahabhuta — the five great elements Facebook  ·  X  ·  Write to me →

Akash is the subtlest of the five — space, ether, the medium in which everything else exists. In the body it is the hollow places: the chest cavity, the abdomen, the channels through which things move. In this tradition it is also the element of energy and mind, which is why the practices gathered here are the ones concerned with flow, attention and the nervous system rather than with substance.

Acupressure, Su Jok, Ayurveda, yoga and meditation all sit under this heading. They come from different places — China, Korea, India — but they share a working assumption: that the body is organised, that its organisation can be influenced from the outside, and that mind and body are not separate subjects.
